The author, who also wrote 'The Long Lost Secrets of Freemasonry and Rennes-le-Chateau' strings together internet-found fantasies to create assumptions so comon in the Grail/Templar genre. Using the Knight/Lomas formula, he has tossed aside anything which would show his presuppositions to be invalid, plunging blindly on. Byrne and I had a very heated exchange in 1998 when he attempted to claim that I and others were conspiring against him by removing photos which 'proved' his thesis from an unmoderated newsgroup (alt.binaries.freemasonry). Despite several posters advising him that he simply was ignorant of the way and manner in which newsgroups operated, he loudly proclaimed censorship because he had found some super-secret sauce which Masons (he himself is one) were trying to hide. He was asked why his astounding research had not been submitted to the QCCC (the leading UK research lodge). He admitted that he had done that but that they were not at all interested, butressing his belief that his profound discoveries were being suppressed.
Based on his "astute" powers of discernment, seen 'up close and personal', it's hard to put any stock at all in any of his 'findings'.
From the words of the author: FORGIVE THE UPPER CASE - MY BOOK DOES NOT USE ANY 1780 MAPS TO SUPPORT MY PROVEN HYPOTHESIS THAT THE MASONIC RITUAL IDENTIFIES A MOUNTAIN IN THE LANGUEDOC. THE ONLY RELEVANT PART OF THE ROYAL ARCH RITUAL WHICH IS USED IN MY ARGUMENT IS THE PLATE OF GOLD. IT IS THE 3 HEBREW CHARACTERS WHICH PROVIDE THE 33 DEGREE CLUE AND LEAD, ALONG WITH 21 OTHER LANDMARKS TO THE MOUNTAIN AND THE HEBREW CHARACTERS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE 1760 RITUAL. -------------------------------
Proven hypothesis? Yeah, right!
Some of the foolishness of the author's claims can be found at http://groups.google.com/group/alt.freemasonry/browse_thread/thread/63327228d2ca60f7?hl=en&q=%22Patrick+Byrne%22+group:alt.freemasonry#b7fb8fd326cae7a8
